Overall I think this book is an okay book. But if I had a chance to choose my own book, I would never read this book. I m not really a smart person, and I do not really like to read books that are written for classes or just for educational purposes. I usually prefer fiction books, because they are not that hard o understand and they do not try to confuse their readers. This book has lots of confusion in it. It is kind of historical; it contains some part of world history in it. And it is hard for people that do not have any idea what it was like to live in that period of time. And these parts confuse me, as a reader. I think that author showed a lot a lot of symbolism in this book, which is most likely the reason I do not understand it clearly. But the good thing about this book that it show the what reality is rally like. The behavior that is show in this book is same as it is these days. Also author tried to encourage people and his readers around the world to be more caring and loving, and not to be a racist. The most things that the world needs right now and I think it will always need it is love. World around us is cruel and sinful and people are used to it, so they can not anything about it.

Lord Of The Flies. Question 7

The most beautiful settings that I found throughout this book were: the island, the nature on that island, and the way the author described the ocean with which the island was surrounded with. But then the event that happened on the island itself made it look really disgusting and nasty. As the book says that Simon found beautiful and pretty places on that island where he stayed privately and enjoyed staying there. But I think the reason he liked staying there alone, because he talked to the Lord of the Flies. When he was about to faint during this process, he wanted to inform his “friends” that were still on the island. But his cheerful and excited friends killed him instead of helping, because the saw him as a beast. I thought that his setting was very sarcastic, mocking. I always thought that in somewhere in the book the boys would change their attitudes, but when this happened I just did not want to read the book any farther. Suddenly this beautiful and gorgeous place turned into hell, a dark nightmare. Just this few words my whole opinion about the whole book. It was kind of impressing; author used really efficient and valuable words for this part of the book. This is where the scary things start to happen, kids start to die.

“They worked therefore with great energy and cheerfulness, though as time crept by there was a suggestion of panic in the energy and hysteria in the cheerfulness. They built a pyramid of leaves and twigs, branches and logs, on the bare sand by the platform. For the first time on the island, Piggy himself removed his one glass, knelt down and focused the sun on the tinder. Soon there was a ceiling of smoke and a bush of yellow flame.”(p.144)
I chose this passage because I thought it was really amazing that Piggy actually helped those that he did not like, or just did not want to respect. Also he had really wanted to survive on this island. He was hoping that one day he would eventually get home, but he never even thought of death and that it could happen to him soon. I think this passage kind of relates to me. I always do something so I could achieve my goal, but I never think of the thing that could happen to me during this process. I always think of me final or the finishing part, but I do not know what is going to happen to me or the thing I am working on. Piggy was really one minded, if he wanted to do something he would achieve his goal no matter whatever happens or whatever he does. I am not actually like that; I do not take some stuff serious, even if I really have to. Throughout the book Piggy had only one wish, to get home. He tried his best to achieve his goal, but because of his island “buddies” he get’s killed. And everything just collapses under his feet. Everything what he worked so hard for, just get destroyed in few seconds. Sometimes I feel the same. Something that I work for gets destroyed by my fault or people around me.

Lord Of The Flies. Quesion 5

In my opinion it reveals the dark side of human society and it is demonstrated by 25 boys’ behavior. For me the mood of this book was inky, gloomy, dull, pessimistic, tragic and really violent, cruel, evil, and harsh. Dark and wildness of human being are also displayed vividly. Somewhere in the book it was written that every single boy should have been to school and before coming to an uninhabited island they must have possessed mind of child. However as the time passes and as they adopt the new environment their minds and thoughts change not in a good way. In the beginning Ralph was elected as a leader, and most conditions were working out very smoothly. However without any guide lines such as adults or an intellectual, 24 boys had to assistance Ralph. He had to seek for every need and had to solve out the problems they had faced with. And of course there were no one advice to him except Piggy who had lots of knowledge which helped Ralph a lot. But still Piggy’s knowledge was not enough, and because of that unexpected incidents happened such as loosing kids, killing their friend Simon, and firing in island. It was violent and every action they have done was so cruel and aggressive. I was shocked to the facts that these little kids could do those things. Also it made me sad because they were young and indeed needed protects from adults. Jack couldn't control his feelings and antipathy to Ralph because he didn't have anyone teaching him how to restraint his mind.

In my opinion the climax in this book is when Piggy dies. I think so because when this happens Ralph does not have anybody else on his side and he can not really stay away from Jack and his hunters. When Piggy dies Jack knows that this is his chance to take over the island and rule over the boys. At first I could believe that Jack was the one who killed piggy, but later on I found out that it was true. After Piggy’s death things on the island start to change in a really bad way, the conch breaks, and this was the thing that Piggy was put in charge of. But then I thought of the almost death of Ralph, that comes right before the ending, where the Navy Officer come and rescues them. After the children kill Piggy, they decide to get rid of the next threat, Ralph. For Ralph, he had to run for his life right after his best friend died. He hid in the mountains, jungles, and grass fields. The other children set the island on fire, all crazy to kill Ralph. Ralph manages to keep himself from the fire, and who used to be his followers. But, he gets caught at last and he gets almost killed. In my opinion Piggy was a great person in that community on that island. When Jack separates from Piggy and Ralph he could not do anything by himself, he still needs their help. Even though Ralph and Piggy do not want to help them, they still have to.

The main characters are Ralph, Jack, Simon, Piggy and Lord of the flies.
Ralph is the chief in their adventure and Jack is the other chief who is going against Ralph so he could become a new chief on the island. Simon is one of the followers of Ralph. Piggy represents intelligent and smart person on island, out all of the other people I think he is the smartest one. Lord of the flies is the creature that comes from people's fear even though it doesn't exist; it is just boy’s imagination. While reading this book I found only one character that I actually honor and like, and it is Piggy. Other characters that are okay characters are: Ralph and Simon. But Jack and Lord of the Flies are not the best nor the greatest characters. The reason why I do not like Jack and Lord of the flies is because their personality or existence was not appreciated or the other did not really wanted to be surrounded by these characters. Their existence was disturbing for the boys lives. I do not like Jack and Lord of the flies because they just scared people, or did not help their peers when they needed their help. I like Ralph, Simon and Piggy because they participated a lot not even for their own benefit, they also tried their best to rescue. Ralph was the chief who helped people to be rescued. Simon supported their team with his spiritual strength. Piggy also supported their team with his intellectual strength. They are special because they represent the people who live in the world.

Lord Of The Flies. Question 2

Lord of the flies was written a few years after the World War II, maybe that is what caused our author, William Golding write this novel. His story was different from the actual war. He was not as harsh in the book as it is in the real world. In my opinion the great example of this would be a war that is still going on right now, this minute. I think that these kinds of situations could be resolved or “fixed” only one way, by human beings. Human beings should change their views on this world and change their attitudes toward everyone else. The best way to solve this problem that occurred in the book Lord of the Flies is that the boys should have acknowledged their mistake way before it was too late.
It is their entire fault for making the island such bad and insecure place to live and survive. The things that are happening in the world around us, human beings are our entire fault. And boys were the reason for those events that happened on the island. I think that the best solution they could have on this island is that boys should have been more caring and loving toward their peers. Boys were being too mean to the boys that were younger, but instead they were being mean and trying to act older than they actually are. I think that they were judging the people on the island by their physical appearances and their age.

Lord Of The Flies. Question 1

In my opinion the main theme of this book is that love and friendship. In other word words author just sowed us that every single human bean makes up humanity. If people work together they can achieve really difficult goals. This book shows us a great example of love and friendship should be like. The boys in this book were all greedy and selfish, that what most of the humanity is right now. People do not treat each other they way they should, and those people treat them the same way. And this is not what life is about. Most of the thing that happen in our society should not be like that. God created people to be friends and love one another with brotherly love, honor one another above our selves and treat people around us the way we want to be treated. The things that happen on the island were only because of the children fault, they created most the chaos there. But I think that every individual has a good and a bad side in them. While reading this book I was confused with some parts, I did not understand some of the events and some of them I still do not really understand. For example why would you kill someone who is your friend or someone who you have been stuck on a desert island? That was the most shocking an disgraceful thing I have ever heard of.

I think in this entry I would tell what I think about the book. For me this book was an okay book. I didn’t really enjoy reading this book because author two incompatible things animals and revolution. While reading this book I felt kind of weird. By that I mean that some parts were just too strange and shocking for animals to do. Other parts of the story had too much of fiction. So basically this book was made up of fiction, history and some other stuff that does not fit into this book. For example the parts where there were battles are just too much of inventions, I think so because how could animals take over people that are equip with guns and other pieces of ordnance? I think that was just too banal for this book. Also all other events that happened in this novel were not that nice, or I just didn’t want to agree with author about some occurrences. I just couldn’t believe what author was saying about some history events. But some fragment from this production made me smile. For example when animals were slowly becoming like people. To my mind came a picture how pigs tried to walk on their hind legs. It is just funny even to imagine. I can not even come up with such idea like this. I think author also tried to make this book funny in a way, but I don’t think it really worked they he wanted it to be.

The setting that I find comfortable in this book is when animals are done with building the windmill. I think so because animals are happy with their work and to them windmill must be the most precious thing in the whole world. At that time animals would not even have any idea that the windmill will be destroyed in just few days. Most disturbing setting is when Napoleon takes over the farm and becomes like a human being. It’s disturbing because those are the climax of the story and it’s the most memorable events throughout out the whole novel. Most memorable events in this book for me were when Napoleon sold Boxer, when Napoleon becomes a leader of the farm, when animals stat to wear human clothing. Well most memorable event for me is when Napoleon sells Boxer for money. It’s like selling one of your family members just so you can get money out of it. The second event that I remember the best is when Napoleon takes over the farm. I remembered this event because I don’t like Napoleon and Snowball was one of my favorite characters in this book. I just couldn’t believe that other animals just forgot about him that easy. Also it was memorable because Napoleon is one of the dishonest characters in this book. Ant the last event that I remembered the most is when pigs start to act like people around them. I remembered it clearly because that was the main point of the book is to be different from people and now they become more and more like people.

“…Nothing could have been achieved without Boxer, whose strength seemed equal to that of all the rest of the animals put together. When the boulder began to slip and the animals cried out in despair at finding themselves dragged down the hill, it was always Boxer who strained himself against the rope and brought the boulder to a stop. To see him toiling up the slope inch by inch, his breath coming fast, the tips of his hoofs clawing at the ground, and his great sides matted with sweat, filled everyone with admiration…”
“His two slogans were, ‘I will work harder’ and ‘Napoleon is always right,’…”
I think this passage is significant to me because I always want to work harder, but it never works. Even though I try my best it still never works. For me Boxer is a great example of a good worker. Boxer worked hard not because Napoleon said so, but because he wanted to do his job. He always tried hard and he never stopped doing what he did just for his own sake. This passage shows us what it’s really like to be a good worker, and work for yourself not for people around you. Boxer liked his job and he never gave up or complained or goofs around during working hours. But sometimes he just took too much for him to do and did accomplish the whole task, just part of it. I think Boxer tried to be an example for other animals but it didn’t work that way. Animals knew that he was a great worker but never tried to be like him. I think it was just not foul that Napoleon sold one of his greatest workers, just for money which the whole farm was against of and no one can stop him from doing this. This passage shows us how hard Boxer worked and everything what he did no one could save him or help him. Even though Napoleon saw that Boxer was going through a hard time he had never gave him grace or any advice to stop ruining his health for his own good.

Question 5

To me this story has different moods throughout the whole book. While reading this novel I experienced joy, grief, spite and unfairness. For me it was kind of hard to choose only one mood for this novel. I think the mood that mostly describes this book is injustice. It felt so because Napoleon wasn’t being fair to animals on the farm and all animals knew that it was not right but they still followed whatever he said. Some events in this story kind of sadden me, but mostly they just make me mad. The first event that saddens me is when Napoleon takes over the farm, because Snowball was a great leader not like Napoleon that made everyone work for him and only him. Also Napoleon makes his own rules that only he could follow and no one else can. Second event that made me feel sadness is when Napoleon sells Boxer to a knackers, just to get money from it. Even though animals knew that Napoleon did such a thing they still didn’t complain or do anything just to get Boxer back on the farm. There is one more event that saddens me; it’s when Napoleon and Squealer become like human beings. They start to wear clothes, sleep in beds, drink alcohol, walk on their hind legs and use people’s money and communicate with people. Also the events that make me fell a little bit sad is when Napoleon changes seven commandments into his own rules, and animals still follow these rules, even though they know that its like how people do things.

Question 4

In my opinion the climax of this novel happens when Napoleon runs Snowball off the farm with his trained pack of dogs and declares that the power to make decisions for the farm will be exercised solely by the pigs only. During Snowballs speech Napoleon runs in with his pets and scares Snowball that he runs away from the farm, but he says that Snowball have been killed by those dogs. After this happens everyone started to follow Napoleon rules, without even making sure if Snowball is really dead. As soon as Napoleon becomes a new leader of the farm, all of the animals just suddenly forget about Snowball and how he told the m to live their lives. To me all the events that happen in this story are not very pleasant. The problems that they have on the farm are all animals fault. They should have followed Snowball not what Napoleon said. Or at least they could have followed what they thought was right for them to do. Even though they were not allowed to do what they wanted, they cold have at least gathered all together and resist against Napoleon and Squealer rules, but instead they just gave up easily. It was just really foolish of them letting Napoleon take over the farm and their lives without any interference. After Napoleon start to make his own right and started to act like human beings animals still don’t do anything to stop them from it, even for their own sake.

Question 3

The main characters in this novel are pig Napoleon, his helper Squealer and pig Snowball. I do like Snowball, but I do not like Napoleon and Squealer. I don’t like these two characters because they are dishonest, mean, and irresponsible. I think they are irresponsible because if Napoleon took over the farm he should look after it and take care of the animals on the farm, but instead of doing that he just takes care of himself, and worries about only his stuff. Napoleon and Squealer are dishonest because they made their own rules that they could follow, but other animals are not allowed to. Also Napoleon changed seven commandments, because he just wanted to be like people. Napoleon is mean because he kills animals on the farm and he makes them work while he is sleeping or doing his own things. I like Snowball because he is smart and obedient. I think Snowball is obedient because he followed Majors directions, and he is smart because he knew that now animals were against him, so he just left them alone. I don’t find anything special about these characters; to me they are just animals that have their own lives on the farm. The way they revealed universal human experience is by walking on their hind legs, sleeping in beds, wearing human’s clothes and to have business with people. Before doing this, they promised never to do so, because it was against their seven commandments. Also Napoleon changed the seven commandments because he liked human way more than animal’s rights

Question 2

In my opinion now days there are no such situations like there are on Animal Farm. But maybe about hundred years ago there were. For example Russian revolution that happened in 1917. Author tried to show his opinion against the communism and the war that was happening at that time. The relationship between Animal Farm and Russian revolution is that in both places “bosses” or aka Napoleon and Stalin they start ruling their own right and say that “ some people are more equal than others” or how Napoleon said “ all animals are equal, except some animals are more equal that others”. By saying that they start separating animals and people in different “categories”, they judge people and animals by their posts. This novel does not show any way this situation can be resolved. In my opinion resolutions like to these kinds of stories will come naturally, whenever the people or animals will needed it. This novel does not show any particular way to solve this kind of situations. The best way animals could solve this problem is by trying to stop Napoleon, their leader, from being in charge of them. Author did show or tell the readers how people can solve situations like this so in my opinion we have to guess how this can be solved, or we can just forget these events that happened in this novel.

Question 1

This story happens on a farm that is located somewhere in England. The biggest conflict in this novel is that animals what to be become equal with people (human beings). Their first act is to kick Mr. Jones of the farm, so they could take over it. Before doing so, the oldest animal in the farm named the Major spoke to all animals saying that they should become independent from people; because it was his time to die. On the next day after saying his speech Major died. After that the pig named Snowball took over the farm. Snowball agreed with Major idea to be independent from Mister and Mrs. Jones. Next day the great battle happened. People left the farm. Animal gave a new name to the farm. They made their rules and made up seven commandments that they should follow. In my opinion Mr. Jones represents Russian czar, Snowball- Trotsky, Napoleon as Stalin and all other animal are like average people that have to follow the rules that their leader gave them. The Animal Farm is runned by a dictatorship, and also Russia was runned by dictatorship at that time. To me this story remind me of a Russian revolution that happened in 1917. In my opinion the author of this book tried to criticize communism that first happened in Russia and later on it moved on to Europe and even United States of America. This topic is important to teenagers in 2007 because all these things are happening around us right now.
